HLTCAR001 Perform Electrocardiography Overview

The HLTCAR001 unit of competency is delivered fully online, which means it is self-paced, offering flexibility for study time and completion date.

To undertake the course, you will be required to complete:

  • A self-directed online eLearning module
  • Undertake self-directed learning activities
  • Complete x 3 supervised ECGs with an approved supervisor in your workplace
  • Provide and troubleshoot 1 ECG recording
  • Complete short answer questions on Policies and Procedures in your clinical setting

 

Your module will be supported by an RTO accredited trainer who can assist your course progression and help with troubleshooting if you experience any difficulties throughout the course.

Learners attending this training will have:

  • A healthcare qualification training such as nursing or paramedicine for whom performing ECG is part of the job role
  • Be employed in a healthcare facility that and have access to an ECG machine and patients requiring the collection of an ECG
  • Hold a current registration with Australian Heath Practitioners Regulation Agency (APHRA)

 

This unit applies to health practitioners for whom performing electrocardiography is part of the job role. They may be working in hospitals, primary health care or in other allied health care environments.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

    You are firstly required to complete the assessment questions within the online learning package.

    You will then be required to submit;

    • Evidence of 3 ECG’s collected under the supervision and guidance of their trainer or the appropriately trained clinician. demonstrating all the criteria outlined in the assessment tools.
    • Evidence of troubleshooting of one ECG trace
    • Completion of short answers regarding local policies and procedures

     

    Once all assessment tools are completed, they will be uploaded into your learner portal for validation and verification.  You will have 6 months from your enrolment date to complete all clinical assessments.

    Candidates who enrol and complete the requirements of HLTCAR001 will be awarded a statement of attainment for the following units of competency.
