HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy Overview

This nationally recognised course equips learners with the knowledge and essential skills to provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy in life-threatening medical emergencies.

It is designed for individuals seeking to develop practical competence in advanced first aid and emergency response, and for those looking to extend their skills beyond basic CPR. The course helps learners respond confidently, assess casualties, perform CPR on adults, children, and infants, administer oxygen therapy, manage airways, and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely.

This course is delivered and assessed by accredited trainers, ensuring learners gain practical skills, expert guidance, and the confidence to act effectively in workplace or community emergency situations.

To successfully participate in this course, learners should have the following skills and access to support their learning and practical assessments:

  • Prerequisite: Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate
  • Minimum Age: 16 years old
  • Physical Capacity: Must be able to perform practical demonstrations, including 2 minutes of continuous CPR compressions, rescue breathing, and oxygen therapy procedures on manikins
  • Technology Access: Reliable access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone for online learning

  • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as part of resuscitation procedures.
  • Manage airway obstructions and maintain airway patency using basic airway adjuncts.
  • Recognise and respond to life-threatening medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, choking, respiratory distress, and severe bleeding.
  • Apply legal, ethical, and duty-of-care principles when providing first aid and advanced resuscitation.
  • Assess and monitor casualty condition and adapt response strategies to the situation and environment.
  • Demonstrate competency in responding to emergencies in high-risk workplace or community settings.

    Assessment for this course is designed to confirm competency in advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy skills.

    Learners will be required to:

    • Complete knowledge questions through online modules or written assessments
    • Demonstrate practical skills, including CPR on adults, children, and infants, use of oxygen therapy, airway management, and AED operation
    • Participate in scenario-based exercises to apply skills in realistic emergency situations

    All assessments are conducted by accredited trainers and assess learners against the required competencies.

    Practical and theoretical assessments are conducted and evaluated by accredited trainers. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

    • HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy
    • HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, valid for 12 months in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommendations

    Mode: Blended – online theory combined with face-to-face practical workshop
    Timeframe: Approx. 10.5 hours total (4 hours online + 6.5 hours face-to-face practical)
