This nationally recognised course, HLTAID014 provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to a wide variety of emergencies and provide advanced first aid until professional medical help arrives.

You’ll learn to respond confidently in high‑pressure situations, such as trauma, medical emergencies, environmental injuries, and multi-casualty incidents, and to coordinate first aid efforts, lead other first aiders, and communicate effectively.

This course is ideal for workplace first aiders, emergency responders, community volunteers, or anyone who wants to be prepared and confident to lead in life‑threatening scenarios.

Learners enrolling in HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid should:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be physically capable of performing practical first aid tasks, including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin
  • Have access to a computer or device with a reliable internet connection
  • with internet connectivity for the online learning component

  • Respond to an emergency situation: Recognise and assess emergencies, ensure safety for self and others, and determine the need for first aid
  • Apply appropriate first aid procedures: Provide CPR and advanced first aid care, use equipment correctly, and monitor the casualty’s condition
  • Coordinate first aid activities until arrival of medical assistance: Allocate resources efficiently, manage casualty care, and maintain communication with relevant personnel and emergency services.
  • Communicate details of the incident: Accurately report and document incidents while maintaining privacy and following workplace procedures.
  • Review the incident: Recognise potential psychological impacts, contribute to incident review, and arrange support as required.

    Assessment for this unit includes a combination of online and practical tasks designed to reflect real-world first aid situations. Learners will complete:

    • Online learning and knowledge assessments.
    • Practical demonstrations of advanced first aid skills, including CPR, use of an AED, and management of a range of emergencies.
    • Scenario-based assessments requiring coordination of first aid response, communication, and incident documentation.

    All assessments are conducted by accredited trainers and must be completed to the required standard of competency. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid.

    Timeframe: 6 hours online + 8.5 hours practical training

    The course is delivered through a blended model, combining online theory with face-to-face practical training. This allows learners the flexibility to complete the online component at their own pace before attending a scheduled practical session.
