    Stage 1: Initial Training (Blended Learning)
    • Participants engage in e-learning modules complemented by in-person or virtual sessions. Assessments during this stage include:
    • Topic Review Questions: Complete assessments covering foundational knowledge, micro-skills, self-awareness, and the Lifeline Practice Framework.​
    • Role Play Assessments: Demonstrate crisis intervention skills through simulated scenarios.​
    • Observation Shift: Observe experienced crisis supporters to gain practical insights. ​

     

    Stage 2: Student Placement

    In this phase, participants apply their training in a supervised environment:

    • Logged-In Hours: Complete 16 hours of supervised crisis support calls.​
    • Mid-Placement Workshop: Attend a workshop to reflect on progress and receive feedback.​
    • Assessed Interaction: Participate in a live interaction reviewed by a coach to evaluate competency. ​

     

    Stage 3: Internship

    This final stage emphasizes independent practice with ongoing support:

    • Logged-In Hours: Accumulate 56 hours of crisis support calls.​
    • Managed Contacts: Engage with a minimum of 50 individuals seeking help.​
    • Assessed Interaction: Undergo one final assessed interaction to confirm readiness for accreditation.​
    • Final Assessment Interview: Participate in an interview to review overall performance and readiness.

    Throughout each stage, participants receive continuous feedback and support to foster skill development and ensure the delivery of high-quality crisis support services.

    Upon successful completion of the CHCSS00113 Crisis Support Skill Set, participants are awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency completed. This accreditation is nationally recognized and confirms that the individual has gained the essential skills and knowledge to provide effective crisis support in various settings.

    The CHCSS00113 Crisis Support Skill Set training is designed to prepare individuals for roles as crisis supporters, offering essential skills to assist those in distress. The training is structured over approximately 12 to 14 months, encompassing three distinct stages.

    Stage 1: Initial Training (Blended Learning)

    This phase combines e-learning modules with face-to-face or virtual sessions, totaling around 3 months. Participants engage in interactive online topics and attend group training sessions, which include presentations, role plays, and exercises.

    Stage 2: Student Placement


    Following the initial training, participants enter a 2-month period of supervised placement. During this time, they handle crisis support interactions under the guidance of experienced mentors, applying their learned skills in real-world scenarios.

    Stage 3: Internship

    The final stage involves 7 to 9 months of independent volunteer shifts, where participants manage crisis support calls with ongoing support from in-service supervisors. This phase allows for the consolidation of skills and preparation for accreditation as a Lifeline Crisis Supporter.

    Overall, the program requires a commitment of approximately 4.3 hours per week, including 1 hour of self-study. This structured approach ensures participants are well-equipped to provide effective crisis support upon completion.

    The course fee is $750 for the skill set (3 units of competency), which includes all required equipment, comprehensive learning resources, and access to specialist clinical supervision and training throughout the unit of competency.
